Headlight position adjustment

Does anyone have any advice on moving the headlight in its aperture? I'm not talking about beam alignment, but the physical location: in my car I notice that the gap above the light is too large, so the whole thing needs to come up a couple of millimetres. (I'm pretty sure the bonnet is aligned OK.)

I've had a poke around, and found that the inner and outer clamping screws have an adjusting collar at the bottom (reverse-threaded) but raising these didn't directly move the front of the glass in proportion. And quite possibly messed with the beam direction. I'll see when it gets dark. :?

I'm wondering if it's the two plastic prongs which engage with the bottom of the light assembly. I see from the diagram that they're screwed on (Part 15 & 16), which I didn't notice when I had the headlight out. If they have an oval screw hole for vertical movement, then I think that would do the job.

I'll have another look some time soon, but it's a faff taking the headlight out and putting it back. Or I could just learn to live with two millimetres of panel gap.

Yes, in these adjusters should do the job. Beware that the gap between the headlight unit and the bumper would increase. And do keep an eye on how the unit fits against the wing. It's likely that your headlight beams will have to be adjusted afterwards.

The gap between between the headlight unit and the bonnet is one of the largest gaps on the TT anyway :(
Is the alignment of the bonnet correct?

Thanks! Encouraged by your reply, I went back and took the headlight (yet again) and raised the two hooks. In fact, I took them to the top of their travel, but I think the result is acceptable.

If anyone is interested, here are what the parts look like. The screw head is the same torx size as the headlight screws, however, you can't easily use the long screwdriver you use to release the headlight because the bumper is in the way. I had a right-angle ratchet and torx bit.

I look forward to spending an hour in the cold and dark tonight, tweaking the aim.

(In answer to the question about bonnet alignment, yes, the shut line along the wing looks correct.)

Glad my encouragement helped :D
The front looks factory original to me now.

Halogen you can adjust yourself. For Xenon you'll need VAGCOM in order to learn the automatic level system its new base level.
But if you're lucky the angle of the beam hasn't changed (much). I believe it should be 1%: every 10 meters the beam should drop 10cm.

Just found this thread after hrs of looking for advice on how to get the headlights sitting right.
I had the bumper and bonnet resprayed last yr by the body shop for Audi. I went back loads of times as I wasn't happy about the pannel gaps. They made the excuse of not being able to get it right because of the headlight retaining screws x2 were seized up. This is despite not having to actually remove the lights to remove the bumper!

I recently had to replace the bonnet release handle after it snapped, this was due I think to having far too much latching presure against it. At the same time I managed to get the headlights out and grind off the stupidly designed fixings for the headlights. These are height adjustable by means of a built in platform with a reverse thead, this is what the 2 headight lugs slide onto.
After 2 days of messing about with it, I cannot get the lights to sit flush with the bumper, corner of the wings and top of the bonnet. I've had to adjust the bonnet to try close the gap above the headlights but it still isn't right. The only way I can get the bonnet to sit closer to the headlights is to lower the bonnet latch but now it's broken the bonnet release latch again, there's too much pressure generated on the release mechanism doing it this way. If I screw in the rubber bump stops then it closes the gap to much on the fender.
The whole lot is ruining the look of the car. I've been back to complain to the garage but they don't want to know, plus I don't trust them in getting it right.
It looks to me as though the bumper isn't fitted right, it looks like it could be tilting down and forward. Is there any panel gap settings anywhere and info on how the bonnet adjustment actually works, the 11mm height adjustment bolt doesn't seem to have any purpose whatsoever as it's actually built into the fixed part of the hinge itself so any height adjustment of this bolt actually fights again the bonnet hinge it's attached to?

I've never taken the bumper off but from what I've read it simply attaches by 7 bolts and is more or less self aligning, even the corner where it mates to the fender doesn't look right when the headlight is fitted, the bummer isn't following the contour of the bottom of the headlight.

As this thread deals with another op' you may get a better response if you post your own separate query with the specific questions you would like guidance on.

I had my bumper and front right wing recently replaced following a minor accident caused by a third party. Following replacement I noted some issues with alignment and fortunately the bodyshop adjusted a few bolts on the front wing and made it right. As part of this process they did mention that to align the bumper was not a simple matter and required a few adjustments on the various fixings that hold the bumper. So maybe loosening some of these whilst moving the bumper before retightening could assist.

I continued it onto this so that people could see pictures etc of what already had been shown and talked about rather than starting all over again with another thread.
I've had another go at it but the area I just cannot get right is the corner of the headlight where it meets the bumper and wing. I've adjusted the bonnet and more or less got that looking better. I took all the fixings off holding the bumper and started all over again to try get the wing and bumper shut lines better but this corner just will not take the contour of the headlight and sticks out.
